Research 3 love opening films
This is the opening to 50 first dates i only looked and analysed it up to 2 minutes of this video; this film is about a men and a girl but has short term memory therefore she always forgets going on the dates they go on hence the name "50 first dates", this film is a romantic comedy and a very good film.
As you see the music is quite romantic at the start and the first shot is a picture of the sun going down on the beach which is also a romantic thing to see with your lover; this is effective because it shows the audience that it is going to be a romantic film from the start and sets the seen straight away. I thought this was good because it sets the mood for the audience therefore making them want to watch on and also it sets the romantic theme. We were thinking of doing a beginning like this but thought we best not because there are no Beach's near us therefore we could not get the correct shot for the opening. The shot is a mid-shot which shows all the beach, the sun set and the sea this sets the seen more.
The camera then pans across the beach and goes to the pineapple which then fads in the title of the film and changes the whole seen to the kitchen; this is good because the fad they did made the film look professional and smooth; we decided to use the fad technique in are final project to make are project look more professional. This opening seen, set the scene, told the audience what type of film it will be and also introduced what the film is called in 48 seconds of the film starting. This is very good because it tells the audience the information they needed to know in a short amount of time therefore giving the audience longer to enjoy the film without them trying to work out this information. We want to do this for are film to make sure the audience do not get lost or confused throughout it therefore making them enjoy it.
The titles then fad out again and the scene continues from where the title fads out; this is good because the scene is set and the scene continues from the title scene, this makes it look more professional; we were thinking about doing it like this but we thought we wanted a dramatic start to are romantic film therefore doing this will not set the rite mood for this scene therefore we went against this idea. Then it shows loads of girls in different scenes talking about this one man who is the main character; the makes the audience think who are they talking about and what does this man look like therefore making the audience want to watch out to find out this information; this is good to do because it makes your audience more interested in your film therefore making them get into it more. This is a good idea but are film does not have a mystery man to explore with therefore this would not go well with are film. They final tell the audience what his name is therefore breaking the tension but all the girls say it one at a time therefore making the audience think this guy is a player; but the real story is how he falls in love. This idea is very effective and draws the audience in and makes them want to watch it further to see how this guy is so amazing; The only bad thing about this is that it would not fit are idea therefore we decided not to chose this technique to put in are film because are film is just a romantic not a comedy as well.
The next film i looked at was "the notebook" this is a film about how to people fall in love with each other.
The opening for this film is not like a normal start that's why i picked it to analysis to my final project; it will only analysis 2 minutes of it because that is how long are film will be therefore giving us an idea of how much time we have for each bit of are opening for are film.
It starts of with the beach again to set the romantic theme to the audience; this is good because it shows and tells the audience what the film theme is straight away therefore avoiding confusion within the audience. We are using this technique but not starting with the beach because there is no beach near us therefore making it hard to get that on video. The music which is used throughout the 2minutes of the opening scene is romantic and also sets the scene and makes that scene very touching already and makes the audience connect with the film. It has the sun setting as well to make the opening more touching and it makes it set the scene of what the films theme is.
It has a man rowing in the sea as well; this idea is good because it shows the men is lost therefore maybe he has lost his heart or something therefore making the audience connect with the film therefore making the audience want to watch on to see why he is rowing by himself. This is a good idea to use because it makes the audience want to watch on therefore making them get in the film more.
The rest of the opening scene is various shots of him rowing down the river/sea and with different scenery around him; this is getting the audience into the film therefore letting them know it is a very romantic film; we decided not to do this idea because we only have 2-4 minutes to get are titles to the audience and also get a opening beginning to are film therefore having this simple but amazing idea to set the film would not make are film good enough to get the mark we are hoping for therefore we decided to make are film straight into the action.
The last film i looked at was love actually; Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England; a romantic comedy.
The opening is very good and effective; it has the world gong round with effects on it; we would like to to this because it makes are film look more professional, we were going to this but it was too complex for us to do therefore taking to much time which we needed for the rest of the film. There logo is very complex to do as well but it makes the film again look professional and this effect makes the audience get in to the film more because they expect a high standard.
The music in opening is soft and quite; this represent love and creates the scene and gives the effect to the audience that it will be a romantic; this is effective because it creates the realism of the film. We decided to have soft music in are opening to try to copy these effect which they created.
The first scene is set in a airport this makes the film see realist and also makes the audience wonder why it is set in a airport this creates the effect of them wanted to watch on therefore getting more in the film. We wanted to base are idea in a real life situation like this scene, we decided to base in a house and around that area to create the theme of realism.
the kissing between the 2 lovers is really romantic and shows the emotion between them; this confirms it is going to be a romantic, and also shows the love between the 2 lovers. We wanted to get this effect with are film but it was hard to create this emotion because the actor we had were not professionals and found it hard to show this emotion.
The voice over is extremely effective and tells the audience what is going on so they do not get lost or confused; we used this idea in are film to try to get this effect across to the audience which hopefully we achieved.
The last bit in the film is the title "love actually" which appears in one of the shots; this is good because after the build up of the start it tells the audience the name of the film which may leave them waiting to watch on to see what the title means. We did not use this idea because we wanted to tell the audience at the start what the title was to follow a traditional role of a film, this makes it look more professional and tells the audience what there watching from the go.
