Actors

we have 2 choices with are actors;

1. is mat's sister and boyfriend who are at the age of 15 and 16 therefore it might not get the emotion across to the audience of what a romantic film is meant to have. The good point about this is that mats sister goes drama school therefore we know the acting will be quite good.

2. we also have mats mum and her boyfriend who could do it; but we do not know if they are good at acting therefore are final project grade may be ruined by poor acting. The good thing about this is that it will make the film more realistic therefore getting the romantic effect across to the audience.

This decision will be made in due time and we will insert pictures and information about are actors and post it on the blog when we have made are decision.

film time

Me and mat have arranged to film the first scene today at the 26/01/10.

Research 3 love opening films

This is the opening to 50 first dates i only looked and analysed it up to 2 minutes of this video; this film is about a men and a girl but has short term memory therefore she always forgets going on the dates they go on hence the name "50 first dates", this film is a romantic comedy and a very good film.

As you see the music is quite romantic at the start and the first shot is a picture of the sun going down on the beach which is also a romantic thing to see with your lover; this is effective because it shows the audience that it is going to be a romantic film from the start and sets the seen straight away. I thought this was good because it sets the mood for the audience therefore making them want to watch on and also it sets the romantic theme. We were thinking of doing a beginning like this but thought we best not because there are no Beach's near us therefore we could not get the correct shot for the opening. The shot is a mid-shot which shows all the beach, the sun set and the sea this sets the seen more.

The camera then pans across the beach and goes to the pineapple which then fads in the title of the film and changes the whole seen to the kitchen; this is good because the fad they did made the film look professional and smooth; we decided to use the fad technique in are final project to make are project look more professional. This opening seen, set the scene, told the audience what type of film it will be and also introduced what the film is called in 48 seconds of the film starting. This is very good because it tells the audience the information they needed to know in a short amount of time therefore giving the audience longer to enjoy the film without them trying to work out this information. We want to do this for are film to make sure the audience do not get lost or confused throughout it therefore making them enjoy it.

The titles then fad out again and the scene continues from where the title fads out; this is good because the scene is set and the scene continues from the title scene, this makes it look more professional; we were thinking about doing it like this but we thought we wanted a dramatic start to are romantic film therefore doing this will not set the rite mood for this scene therefore we went against this idea. Then it shows loads of girls in different scenes talking about this one man who is the main character; the makes the audience think who are they talking about and what does this man look like therefore making the audience want to watch out to find out this information; this is good to do because it makes your audience more interested in your film therefore making them get into it more. This is a good idea but are film does not have a mystery man to explore with therefore this would not go well with are film. They final tell the audience what his name is therefore breaking the tension but all the girls say it one at a time therefore making the audience think this guy is a player; but the real story is how he falls in love. This idea is very effective and draws the audience in and makes them want to watch it further to see how this guy is so amazing; The only bad thing about this is that it would not fit are idea therefore we decided not to chose this technique to put in are film because are film is just a romantic not a comedy as well.

The next film i looked at was "the notebook" this is a film about how to people fall in love with each other.

The opening for this film is not like a normal start that's why i picked it to analysis to my final project; it will only analysis 2 minutes of it because that is how long are film will be therefore giving us an idea of how much time we have for each bit of are opening for are film.

It starts of with the beach again to set the romantic theme to the audience; this is good because it shows and tells the audience what the film theme is straight away therefore avoiding confusion within the audience. We are using this technique but not starting with the beach because there is no beach near us therefore making it hard to get that on video. The music which is used throughout the 2minutes of the opening scene is romantic and also sets the scene and makes that scene very touching already and makes the audience connect with the film. It has the sun setting as well to make the opening more touching and it makes it set the scene of what the films theme is.

It has a man rowing in the sea as well; this idea is good because it shows the men is lost therefore maybe he has lost his heart or something therefore making the audience connect with the film therefore making the audience want to watch on to see why he is rowing by himself. This is a good idea to use because it makes the audience want to watch on therefore making them get in the film more.

The rest of the opening scene is various shots of him rowing down the river/sea and with different scenery around him; this is getting the audience into the film therefore letting them know it is a very romantic film; we decided not to do this idea because we only have 2-4 minutes to get are titles to the audience and also get a opening beginning to are film therefore having this simple but amazing idea to set the film would not make are film good enough to get the mark we are hoping for therefore we decided to make are film straight into the action.

The last film i looked at was love actually; Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England; a romantic comedy.

The opening is very good and effective; it has the world gong round with effects on it; we would like to to this because it makes are film look more professional, we were going to this but it was too complex for us to do therefore taking to much time which we needed for the rest of the film. There logo is very complex to do as well but it makes the film again look professional and this effect makes the audience get in to the film more because they expect a high standard.

The music in opening is soft and quite; this represent love and creates the scene and gives the effect to the audience that it will be a romantic; this is effective because it creates the realism of the film. We decided to have soft music in are opening to try to copy these effect which they created.

The first scene is set in a airport this makes the film see realist and also makes the audience wonder why it is set in a airport this creates the effect of them wanted to watch on therefore getting more in the film. We wanted to base are idea in a real life situation like this scene, we decided to base in a house and around that area to create the theme of realism.

the kissing between the 2 lovers is really romantic and shows the emotion between them; this confirms it is going to be a romantic, and also shows the love between the 2 lovers. We wanted to get this effect with are film but it was hard to create this emotion because the actor we had were not professionals and found it hard to show this emotion.

The voice over is extremely effective and tells the audience what is going on so they do not get lost or confused; we used this idea in are film to try to get this effect across to the audience which hopefully we achieved.

The last bit in the film is the title "love actually" which appears in one of the shots; this is good because after the build up of the start it tells the audience the name of the film which may leave them waiting to watch on to see what the title means. We did not use this idea because we wanted to tell the audience at the start what the title was to follow a traditional role of a film, this makes it look more professional and tells the audience what there watching from the go.

are song to be used in are final project

We picked this song to use in are final project because it is original and goes with are title therefore it is a perfect song for us to use.

The only problem we have is that we need permission form "happyslip's" (the lady who sang this song) we have emailed her and we are waiting for a reply and hopefully she will allow us to use this; we hope she says yes.

mood board

This is our mood board we found out that most of the films/posters use the colour red to represent love and always a man and a lady kissing to represent love aswell.

25 Word Pitch

Check out this SlideShare Presentation:

(1st slide)
Me and mat have chosen to film a opening of a film for our coursework. The genre of the film is a romance. We chose this genre because looking through the previous coursework nobody seem to have attempted to create a romance so we thought we should be ones who do it and we fell we can do this fairly well. The title of our film is "Forever in my Heart" we came to a conclusion that this would be the best title to use because the other titles we thought about gave a lot away of the film.

(2nd slide)
The first scene will be straight into the action. So we shall start it off with a establishing shot of the house (which will be Josh's house) we used the establishing shot so the audience immediately know that where there setting is. Also in this shot it shall be raining and it will be fairly dark this represents sadness. Eventually the establishing shot ends up with the camera peering through the window with the only light on in the house. Also we shall have very dramatic/sad music playing at a low volume to create a feeling, proberly played on the piano.

(3rd slide)
The next shot will be inside the house and will show the boyfriend laying on the floor lifeless and the girlfriend kneeling beside him trying to resuscitating him. She will be in great shock, and at this point the music gets louder and more dramatic. Then the girlfriend will hold here boyfriend in her arms and realise that he has died, she will then look up at the camera which will get closer to her eye which shall shed a tear and eventually end up so close to her eye it Will become darkness which represents death.

(4th slide)
This is when the titles will role and the the music we want to use is from a YouTube clip which someone has written and sang herself and we have emailed the women to see if we could use her music in our film and we are awaiting a reply.

(5th slide)
The music will still be playing but the titles shall fade out and then amateur filming will be shown of the boyfriend and girlfriend filming each other on there own personal camera of particularly happy times. The music Will the slowly dimmer and the boyfriends voice will become a voice over of the amateur filmed clip and he shall be explaining, in a soft and calm voice, how his life was brilliant and is amazed how it can go from to to bottom in just 1 week. Hinting towards the rest of the film.

(6th slide)
Then the amateur clips will fade out and a title will come up saying " Present Week". This shot will be of the boyfriend ( who shall be wearing dark colours) picking up a letter from the post in his house. ( it is also daylight and sunny at this point) and sitting down to read the letter in privacy. He opens it slowly to find its from the NHS. He then begins to read it but in his head this will be shown by a voice over and the beginning of the letter shall be voiced over by the nurse e.g dear mr ... then the boyfriend voice shall take over. He then gets to the point where he reads its to late to take his medication and there is no cure for his condition and only has at the max a week to live.

(7th slide)
Then his girlfriend rushes into the room ( who shall be wearing brightly coloured clothes) the boyfriend then panics and hides the letter. The girlfriend shares some dialect the boyfriend e.g are we still going for that walk today. He then replies yes but I'm going to take next week off and spend the whole week with you. she then looks shocked but excited and says " that's fantastic whats brought this on" he then says " oh nothing i just don't spend enough time with you" she then goes out the room to get ready to go out.

(8th slide)
he then un crinkles the letter and continues to read for it to say make the most of this week do all the things you've alwayswanted to do. He then puts the letter down in shock. Then the camera will become a close up of his face to show emotion and he will look sad. Then the YouTube song will then fade back on as the clip fades out. Eventually the song fades and that would be the ending of the opening of the film.

This is how are presentation went roughly.

Feedback from pitch

We have a lot of good feed back on our idea.

Genre:
All of the audience have relised that the film is a romance/tradgedy.

Target audience:
This seemed to be a problem many of the audience didnt answer this question or simply put a question mark. This was proberly a problem because me and josh didnt even think of a target audience. Some people have really done it for us and put middle aged women and people who like romances. We need to have a think about are target audience in more detail in a later task]

Other texts it reminds you of (intertextuality)
There where many answers to this which could be a good thing or a bad thing because if it reminds them to much of a film it could become predictable but if it doesnt remind them of anything then then could not get the genre. there were many answers e.g P.s i love you, notebook, romeo and juliet etc this is proberly a good thing because not every one has put the same thing so it doesnt look like we have copied and plot already.

Potential Problems
There was the same problem that kept raising up which was if we was not alowed to use the song. If this is so then we shall simply find a free copyright song. Also somebody had put that we needed it to rain to film the first scene but we are simply goin to get a shower head type fitting to put on top of a hose and spray in front of camera which shud seem enogh and then when it comes to the shot looking through the windown we shall spray the window. Another problem was that the actors need to be good and be able to show true emotions we thought this problem through and we thought it shall be good to use my sister as she is a drama student and her boyfriend so it makes it more realistic to her, but this araised another problem which was the age of the actors because my sister is only 14 and her boyfriend is 15 although we could proberly make them look slightly older not enough to make it realistic though so then we thought of some thing else but we wanted them to use there boyfriend/girlfriend in it so it makes it more realistic for them and show there true emotions to each other, we then realised that we have a friend who has a girlfriend who he is comftable with and he has also done acting like this before, he is 17 and if any thing looks alot older, all we need to do is ask and this would be our problem solved!

Positive Comments
there was alot of good feedback and this was the box that was mainly filled in which was good. The main aspect they thought was good was the amatuer filming after the credits which gives the audience a real idea of how good the characters relationship was and shows the audience how much of a loss it was to the girlfriend.

Advise/suggestions
There was alot of answers to this aswell one was that there would be to many flashbacks and mabye the girlfriend could find and read the letter after he dies which is a very good idea that we shall take into consideration. Another suggsetion was that how are we goin to make it clear that it is hoom footage on the amatuer filming, we shall do this by puttin the camera settings on a bad quality and on the editing program we use is has effects to make the clip look old.
